Preserving the past

Whenever there is a tour of homes in a historic district, my heart skips a beat. Sylvan Park has kept most of their homes on the historic registry and every year more people are moving in and fixing up these treasures. The charm of this neighborhood is undeniable!

One of my many mothers and I went on this tour yesterday and fell in love with several historic beauties.

This pink Victorian was built in 1902.

Here is another Victorian built in 1894!

This is a 1940's bungalow.

This craftsman bungalow is actually new construction but the owner worked hard to make sure it went along with the character of the neighborhood. They were gracious about letting me take pictures of the inside.

The floor plan was open and the kitchen was stunning!

A butler's pantry between the kitchen and dining was a beautiful and functional part of this floor plan.

One of our stops was the Sylvan Park Elementary Paideia Design Center. But I got the best tour of all since the person I was with went to school there.

This woman has a MEMORY! I don't even remember where I was living in second grade.

I love these!!!
What a great auditorium!

BUT THE SHOW STOPPER...

As any smart seller would do, there was an open house in the neighborhood that day.  So of course we went!  It is an early 1900 Victorian. Since it is for sale by owner we got to hear all the great stories from the owner. This home is lovingly called the chestnut manor because of all the natural chestnut woodwork throughout the house. These pics below are just some highlights.

The owners did a great job restoring the interior to the Victorian period. Using the foyer fireplace as an inspiration to pull the color scheme for the entire house.

The transom and brick wall are some of the details you have to love in a historic home.

These beautiful doors are in the outside garden leading out to the street.

Sylvan Park always has a great tour of homes. I recommend you make it a part of your fall traditions.
These homes have an enchanting story to tell that will bring you back in time and make you want to move there!
